John Dramani Mahama and Emmanuel Macron held high-level bilateral talks at the Élysée Palace on Wednesday, marking a significant milestone in Ghana–France relations.
The meeting followed the successful conclusion of the One Health Summit in Lyon, which both leaders co-chaired. President Macron commended President Mahama for his leadership during the summit and announced that Ghana has been selected as the first beneficiary of France’s newly introduced National Health Compact.
Macron also praised Ghana’s Accra Reset Initiative, describing it as “very important” and a key reference point during discussions at the summit.

President Mahama, on his part, expressed gratitude to France and China for their support in Ghana’s ongoing debt restructuring efforts. He highlighted signs of economic resilience and improving indicators within the Ghanaian economy.
The bilateral discussions covered a broad range of strategic areas, including trade expansion, regional and global security, development cooperation, and food security through year-round farming initiatives. Both leaders also explored opportunities in artificial intelligence (AI), maternal health, and major infrastructure development, particularly the proposed Accra–Kumasi Expressway.
The talks reinforced the shared commitment between Ghana and France to uphold democratic values, maintain peace, and promote a rules-based international system.
The renewed engagement signals a deepening partnership between the two nations, with expectations of increased collaboration across economic, health, and technological sectors in the coming years.
