ECG Responds to Concerns Over Metering and Billing Systems

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has addressed recent concerns raised by prepaid customers and other stakeholders regarding the accuracy of its metering and billing systems.

In a statement, ECG assured the public that all electricity meters deployed by the company undergo rigorous testing and calibration to ensure accuracy. The company emphasized that its quality assurance processes comply with both national and international standards. ECG’s meter testing laboratory, described as state-of-the-art, is said to be comparable to leading facilities worldwide.

Furthermore, ECG confirmed that all its meters are independently tested and certified by the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) to ensure compliance with approved standards before deployment.

While expressing confidence in the reliability of its meters, ECG acknowledged that some customers may have genuine concerns. In line with directives from the Honourable Minister for Energy and Green Transition, the company has commenced investigations into all complaints.

In the interest of transparency and accountability, ECG has formally requested the GSA to independently and randomly test its meters both in the laboratory and in the field. The findings from GSA will be included in ECG’s report to the Minister.

ECG reaffirmed its commitment to responsive, transparent, and accountable service delivery and thanked its customers and stakeholders for their continued support and cooperation.
