Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has held high-level discussions with the leadership of the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) at her office, focusing on the Centre’s mandate and its expanding role in promoting peace, security, and inclusion across the region.
The meeting centered on strengthening collaboration to enhance national and regional stability through research, training, and policy dialogue.
Commendation for Regional Impact

During the engagement, the Vice President praised KAIPTC for its sustained contribution as a leading regional hub for peacekeeping training and security research. She acknowledged the Centre’s strategic focus on women, peace and security, youth mentorship, and institutional reform pillars she described as essential to long-term stability.
According to her, building resilient institutions and inclusive governance systems remains a shared responsibility that requires consistent commitment from both state and non-state actors.
Strengthening Early Warning and Mediation
A key highlight of the discussion was the importance of reinforcing early warning and mediation mechanisms to address emerging threats before they escalate into full-blown conflicts.
The Vice President stressed that proactive and timely interventions are critical in preventing tensions and safeguarding national cohesion. She noted that institutions must remain aligned with their core mandates while adapting to evolving security dynamics.
Women, Youth and Institutional Visibility
The engagement also underscored the need to deepen women’s participation in peace processes and decision-making structures. The Vice President emphasized nurturing youth leadership as a strategic investment in sustainable peacebuilding.
Both parties further discussed enhancing the visibility of KAIPTC’s work to ensure broader stakeholder engagement and public awareness of its research and training contributions.
Artificial Intelligence in Governance and Security
Discussions explored the growing relevance of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in governance and security research. The Vice President called for clarity, ethical standards, and responsible application in the use of AI tools, highlighting the importance of safeguarding human rights and democratic values.
Commitment to Inclusive Peacebuilding
The meeting concluded with a reaffirmation of the government’s commitment to inclusive peacebuilding, forward-looking security governance, and proactive conflict prevention in service to Ghana and the wider West African region.
