Hearts of Oak beat Legon Cities to go second on the league standings

Legon Cities' woes this season have been further compounded after they were beaten 1-0 in the capital derby against Accra Hearts of Oak on Friday January 3, 2025. Ahmed Ramzy Yussif’s first half strike turned the game on its head and left the visitors with a pyramid to climb at the bottom of the Premier League table. The win has left the Phobians to second position in the table with 28 points from 16 games while Cities remain at the bottom with 11 points in what has been a difficult campaign for the Royals. The match also saw Hearts of Oak reduced to 10 men after Emmanuel Amankwah received a red card in the 80th minute. Despite the numerical disadvantage, the team held firm to secure the win.

Legon Cities officially appoints Yaw Acheampong as new head coach

Legon Cities have officially announced the appointment of Yaw Acheampong as their new Head Coach. Acheampong takes over from Paa Kwesi Fabin, whose contract was terminated following a poor run of results. The experienced tactician would be hoping to guide the 'Royals' to safety as they are currently rock bottom of the league with 11 points. Acheampong would be yearning for a good start with the club when they play Accra Hearts of Oak later on Friday at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium. Acheampong was recently dismissed as head coach of Aduana Stars after inconsistent results in the ongoing 2024-25 Ghana Premier League. It would certainly be a tough task for Acheampong as he seeks to rescue Legon Cities, who have some tough upcoming fixtures.
