The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested several key suspects linked to a series of violent armed robberies that have plagued residential areas in the region in recent weeks. The successful operation, which followed a coordinated intelligence-led response, saw a dramatic exchange of gunfire that left one suspect fatally wounded and others in custody.
According to a police statement, the operation was carried out on Friday, June 27, 2025, around 11:30 a.m., following numerous reports of robbery incidents in Abuakwa, Tanoso, Apatrapa, Dechembuoso, Appiadu, and surrounding communities.
During the operation, one suspect sustained gunshot wounds after engaging police in a firefight. He was later pronounced dead at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) by medical officers. Another suspect, identified as Yahaya Nuhu, managed to flee and is currently the subject of an intense police manhunt.

A swift response by joint patrol teams from the KNUST District and Regional Operations, in collaboration with the Police Intelligence Department (PID), led to the arrests. The suspects were apprehended from various hideouts within the Kumasi metropolis.
Arrested Suspects
Among the arrested are:
- Kwadwo Kyei Baffour, 39
- Joseph Oppong a.k.a. Joe, 30
- Bernard Owusu Ansah a.k.a. Hot Boy, 27
During interrogations, suspect Kwadwo Kyei Baffour confessed to participating in the robberies and admitted to raping a victim during one of the attacks.
Recovered Items
The police retrieved a significant cache of stolen items and weapons from the suspects, including:
- Multiple laptops, tablets, and mobile phones
- Televisions, wristwatches, WiFi routers
- Three vehicles: a Kia Morning and two Toyota Corollas (GX 4388-19, AS 4777-22)
- Face masks used in the robberies
- A Taurus pistol (ACC721513) with 4 rounds of 9mm ammunition
- NP Cal 9x19mm pistol (No. 11501418)
- Jojeff pump-action shotgun (No. 8782) with 33 rounds of ammo
Further investigations led to additional arrests:
- Kwadwo Konadu, 28
- James Asare Boateng, 26
- Emmanuel Asiedu, 27
- Maxwell Gyimah, 30
Suspect Bernard Owusu Ansah, currently receiving treatment at KATH under armed police guard, assisted officers in retrieving more weapons, including:
- Bruni Mod 92 Auto Cal 8mm pistol (No. 180921)
- Ricol 15-0924 pump-action gun
- Single-barrel shotgun
In a related arrest, Joseph Oppong was found with a Foocio Cal 4.5mm converter pistol.
Further operations led to the arrest of:
- Kelvin Adomako a.k.a. Chemicals, 29, at Ejisu Hwereso
- Daniel Dwumor, 46, at Bantama, alleged to have supplied intelligence that facilitated the Appiadu robbery
All suspects are in police custody and will be arraigned before court soon.
The police emphasized that efforts are underway to apprehend Yahaya Nuhu, the remaining fugitive linked to the gang.
Police Reassurance
DSP Godwin Ahianyo, Head of the Public Affairs Unit in the Ashanti Region, praised the public for its cooperation and assured residents of the police’s continued commitment to rooting out crime and maintaining peace across the region.
“We will not relent in our fight against violent crime. The safety of the people in the Ashanti Region remains our top priority,” DSP Ahianyo stated.
Residents are encouraged to continue supporting the police with information to ensure the full dismantling of this criminal network.
