Two Soldiers Arrested Over Alleged Extortion at Mining Site

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has confirmed the arrest of two of its personnel in connection with an alleged extortion incident at LongShine Mining Company Limited in Prestea-Obouhu, Western Region.

According to a statement issued by the Acting Director General of Public Relations, Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, the alleged incident occurred on Sunday, September 28, 2025, and involved two soldiers working in collaboration with civilian accomplices.

The GAF noted that it is working closely with the Ghana Police Service to investigate the matter thoroughly. “If found culpable, the personnel will face the law as any citizen of Ghana,” the statement emphasized.

The Armed Forces further assured the public of its commitment to discipline, professionalism, and accountability. “The Ghana Armed Forces wishes to assure the general public that it will not shield its personnel involved in criminal activities,” the statement added.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the full details of the alleged extortion.
