The Ghana Police Service has arrested three suspects in connection with violent disturbances that erupted during a football match between Nsoatreman FC and Kumasi Asante Kotoko FC at Nsoatre in the Bono Region on February 2, 2025. The clashes led to the tragic death of one person.
According to a statement released by the Public Affairs Directorate of the Police Headquarters, the suspects—Ignatius Baffour Awuah, Agyemang Duah Owusu, and Kyeremeh Joseph—are currently in police custody, assisting with investigations.
A search of Agyemang Duah Owusu’s room led to the discovery of two dresses with suspected bloodstains, along with an MP 23 pistol and 15 rounds of ammunition.
The Inspector-General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has since reached out to the family of the deceased and the leadership of Kumasi Asante Kotoko FC to express his condolences. He assured them that a thorough investigation is underway.
Additionally, a special team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters has been deployed to support the Bono Regional Police Command in the investigation.
The Ghana Police Service has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring justice and maintaining security at football events across the country.
