Asante Kotoko SC has expressed deep sorrow following the tragic events that unfolded at Nana Koramansah Park, leading to the death of their supporter, Francis Yaw Frimpong. The club released an official statement mourning the loss and reaffirming its commitment to seeking justice for the slain fan.
While acknowledging the pain and grief, Asante Kotoko commended the swift action of the Ghana Police Service, which has led to the arrest of three suspects allegedly involved in the violence. The club pledged full cooperation with law enforcement to ensure that justice is served and those responsible are held accountable.
Kotoko also extended gratitude to its fans for remaining calm and exercising restraint in the face of the tragic incident. Management emphasised that their unity and discipline would be instrumental in ensuring justice prevails.
Furthermore, the club stated that it is in close communication with Frimpong’s family, offering full support as they navigate this difficult period. Details regarding funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.
Asante Kotoko confirmed that they have accepted an invitation from the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to discuss the incident on Thursday. The club vowed to use this opportunity to push for lasting reforms to end violence, hooliganism, and lawlessness in Ghanaian football. Kotoko urged all clubs, including rivals Accra Hearts of Oak, to unite in addressing these issues for the greater good of the sport.
In a decisive move, Asante Kotoko announced the suspension of all senior team football activities until further notice, insisting they will not resume until justice is served and concrete measures are put in place to prevent such tragedies in the future. However, juvenile teams and injured players undergoing rehabilitation will still be allowed to train.
The club concluded its statement by emphasising that this issue transcends Asante Kotoko alone, calling for collective action to safeguard the future of Ghanaian football.
