Police in the Half Assini Division have successfully rescued a 12-year-old boy who was subjected to horrific abuse in a widely circulated video on social media. The disturbing footage showed the minor tied with a nylon rope and suspended from the roof of a building while being severely beaten by two men in the New Ankasa community, near Elubo in the Western Region.
According to police sources, the brutal assault was allegedly carried out as punishment after the boy was accused of stealing GH₵200. The two suspects, identified as 58-year-old Issah Morro and 27-year-old Suleman Abdul Rashid, who appeared in the viral video, have been arrested and are currently in police custody assisting with investigations.
The young victim was promptly taken to a medical facility where he received treatment before being reunited with his father. Authorities say he is currently in stable condition.
The Western Regional Police Command has condemned the act and reaffirmed its commitment to public safety. They are urging members of the public to report any suspicious, violent, or abusive behavior to the nearest police station without delay.
“This act of vigilantism is unacceptable. No one has the right to take the law into their own hands, especially in such a cruel manner,” the Command stated.
Investigations are ongoing, and the suspects are expected to face charges in court in the coming days.

INNORIGHTS Ghana is a human rights Non-Governmental Organisation that works to promote and protect the rights, dignity and welfare of children and other vulnerable groups. “We are hurt and express our deepest outrage about the disturbing viral video circulating in the social media in which a young child is subjected to brutal and inhumane physical assault by two male adults”, it stated in a statement issued. A copy of the statement, signed by Mr Peter Boateng, the Executive Officer and made available to the GNA in Sunyani, said: “Such barbaric and degrading treatment is not only a direct affront to human dignity but a gross violation of both international and national legal frameworks”. It said Ghana, as a ‘State Party’ to the United Nations Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (UNCAT) of 1984, had committed herself to “taking effective measures to prevent and punish all acts of torture”. Those international standards are well-reflected in domestic legislation, including the Children’s Act, 1998 (Act 560), which unequivocally protects children from all forms of violence, neglect, and inhuman treatment. The statement said: “We commend the Ghana Police Service for their swift and professional response in apprehending the alleged perpetrators” and called for the immediate prosecution of the suspects to serve as a deterrent to like-minded others. “The police and judiciary must prosecute this case with the urgency, transparency, and the required firmness it deserves, ensuring justice for the victim and deterrence to all would-be offenders”, it urged. It said: “INNORIGHTS Ghana strongly encourages all members of the public to report any form of egregious torture or cruel treatment, particularly against children, to the nearest police station, social welfare office, or any recognized human rights organization”.
