The Greater Accra Regional Police Command has arrested the alleged ringleader of a widespread vehicle theft and rental fraud syndicate operating across multiple regions in Ghana. The suspect, identified as 37-year-old Nana Anderson—also known as Anderson Nana Abeka, Essel Kofi Elvis, and Willson Kojo Bismark—was apprehended on April 5, 2025, in a hideout located in Atasemanso, a suburb of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.
According to a press release issued by the Ghana Police Service’s Regional Public Affairs Unit, Anderson is believed to be the mastermind behind a criminal network that employed forged ECOWAS identity and driver’s license cards to fraudulently rent vehicles, which were later never returned. One such incident occurred on March 25, when Anderson allegedly used falsified documents to rent a Hyundai Elantra, deceiving the rental company by impersonating a legitimate client. The vehicle was never returned, and its tracking system was disabled, raising suspicions that ultimately led to his arrest.
Further investigations revealed that the accused had been involved in similar schemes between January and March 2025, targeting multiple locations across the Greater Accra Region. Stolen vehicles include a Kia Forte from Hatso, a Honda Civic from Amansaman, and a Kia Ultima from Spintex. Police reports state that Anderson received GH¢4,000 for each stolen vehicle.
During interrogation, Anderson reportedly admitted to the crimes and led authorities to a location in Millennium City believed to be the residence of an accomplice, identified as Gideon Baah. However, Baah remains at large.
The suspect has since been arraigned before the court, and investigations are ongoing. Police are actively pursuing Gideon Baah, urging the public to assist with any relevant information.
The statement was signed by Superintendent Juliana Obeng of the Public Affairs Unit, Greater Accra Region.
