Police caution public against unauthorized use of sirens and strobe lights

The Ghana Police Service has cautioned the general public against the unauthorized installation and use of sirens, strobe lights, and other emergency warning devices on vehicles.

According to the Police, there has been a worrying increase in the misuse of these devices by individuals and institutions that are not permitted by law to use them. The Service stressed that sirens and strobe lights are strictly reserved for officially designated emergency and security vehicles, including those used by the Police, Fire Service, Ambulance Service, and other authorized state agencies.

The Police explained that the unauthorized use of such devices poses serious risks to public safety, contributes to traffic indiscipline, and can obstruct the smooth movement of legitimate emergency responders who rely on these warning systems to save lives.

The Service further reminded motorists that the use of sirens and strobe lights without lawful authority constitutes an offence under the relevant road traffic and criminal laws of Ghana. Offenders, the Police warned, will be arrested and prosecuted accordingly.

The Ghana Police Service has therefore urged vehicle owners, drivers, and institutions to immediately remove any unauthorized sirens or strobe lights installed on their vehicles and to comply fully with the law.

The Police also appealed to the public to report any suspicious or unauthorized use of emergency warning devices to the nearest police station to help maintain road safety and public order.
