Police Arrest Suspect in Connection with the Death of KNUST Student

The Ghana Police Service has arrested a suspect in connection with the tragic death of a 21-year-old student from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi.

According to an official police statement, the deceased, identified as Yabane Deladem Aku, was a final-year Biological Science student. She was discovered unresponsive behind the Central Laboratory on campus in the early hours of February 27, 2025. Medical personnel from KNUST Hospital arrived at the scene and pronounced her dead before her body was transported to the hospital morgue for further examination and autopsy.

Preliminary police investigations revealed that the victim’s body bore marks of violence, suggesting foul play. Following further crime scene investigations, authorities arrested Daniel Tuffour, who is currently in police custody and assisting with the ongoing investigation.

The Inspector-General of Police has personally reached out to the deceased’s family to express condolences and assure them that justice will be served. Additionally, he has engaged the university community in discussions on enhancing security measures to protect students on campus.

The Ghana Police Service has reiterated its commitment to ensuring justice for the victim and has urged anyone with relevant information to come forward to aid in the investigation.
