The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) is mourning the tragic loss of a student after her lifeless body was discovered on campus in the early hours of February 27, 2025.
According to a statement released by the university’s management, KNUST Security Services received a report at approximately 5:00 a.m. regarding a deceased female near the KNUST Disability and Rehabilitation Centre. The body was swiftly transported to the University Health Services, where medical personnel confirmed her passing.
The deceased has been identified as Miss Joana Deladem Yabani, a fourth-year student pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences. Her family has been formally notified, and the university has extended its deepest condolences to them.
Authorities have launched a full-scale investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death. The Criminal Investigations Department (CID), KNUST Internal Security, and University Health Services are working together to uncover the facts. The university management has assured the public that all necessary measures will be taken to determine the cause of the incident.
In a message to the university community, KNUST emphasized its unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of students and staff. The institution urged everyone to remain calm, avoid spreading unverified information, and respect the privacy of the bereaved family.
