Northern Regional Police make breakthrough in kidnapping case

The Northern Regional Police Command has achieved a significant breakthrough in a kidnapping case following an intelligence-led operation that led to the arrest of three suspects at Bokpaba, a community along the Bimbilla–Yendi stretch of the Eastern Corridor.

The suspects — Haruna Seidu, Amidu Bandi, and Osman Bandi — are believed to be part of a four-member syndicate that allegedly kidnapped a 42-year-old man at Wapuli in the Yendi District. The group reportedly demanded a ransom of GH₵100,000 from the victim’s family in exchange for his release.

Upon receiving the report, the Regional Police Intelligence Directorate (RPID) dispatched a team of five officers to Wapuli on a surveillance, rescue, and arrest mission. On Friday, December 5, 2025, the operation culminated in the successful rescue of the victim after a fierce exchange of gunfire. The three suspects were arrested at the scene.

The arrested individuals are currently in police custody and are expected to be arraigned before court. Meanwhile, the fourth suspect is believed to have sustained gunshot wounds during the operation and is currently on the run.

Police are appealing to members of the public to provide any credible information that could lead to his arrest.
