Kwesi Arthur Accuses Ground Up Chale of Threats, Ownership Claims and Financial Exploitation

Ghanaian rapper and singer Kwesi Arthur has made explosive allegations against Glen Boateng and members of his former record label, Ground Up Chale, accusing them of intimidation, manipulation, and unlawful ownership claims over his image and music.

In a strongly worded public statement shared on social media, the award-winning artiste claimed he is being demanded to pay $150,000 for using images of himself in a current independent project. According to Kwesi Arthur, Ground Up Chale alleges that it owns him, his image, his music, and all related intellectual property dating from 2016 to the present day.

Kwesi Arthur, however, maintains that he has not worked with or had any affiliation with the label since the release of his debut album Son of Jacob. He further alleged that despite working with the company for several years, he has not earned any income from his music during that period.

“I have not made a dime from any of my music within the period I worked with them for years now and receive constant threats and manipulation from Glen,” the artiste stated.

The musician also accused Glen Boateng of benefiting financially from his hard work while actively attempting to prevent him from releasing music independently. He warned that if his current project is taken down for any reason, the public should hold Glen Boateng responsible.

In one of the most alarming parts of the statement, Kwesi Arthur expressed concern for his personal safety and that of his family, stressing that the prolonged dispute has had a severe impact on his mental health and overall wellbeing.

“I’ve tried to not say anything for a long time though this has affected my wellbeing and mental health greatly but for the safety of myself and my family I choose to publicly share the truth,” he wrote.

As of the time of publication, Ground Up Chale and Glen Boateng have not publicly responded to the allegations.

Kwesi Arthur rose to prominence under the Ground Up Chale imprint and became one of Ghana’s most successful contemporary artistes, earning local and international recognition. The unfolding dispute has sparked widespread discussion within the music industry, with many calling for transparency, fair contracts, and stronger protections for artistes.

This is a developing story. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
