The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has announced that it will suspend work and all commercial activities on Thursday, September 18, 2025, in compliance with a directive from the Manhyia Palace.
The directive, issued by the Palace, calls for the closure of shops, schools, and corporate institutions in Kumasi as part of arrangements for the final burial rites of the late Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III.
In a statement signed by the Registrar, Mr. Benjamin B. Owusu, Esq., the University noted that “all shops and commercial establishments operating on the University campus are to take note of this directive.” Normal academic and administrative activities are expected to resume on Friday, September 19, 2025.

The Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, played a pivotal role as Queen Mother of the Ashanti Kingdom and mother of Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. Her passing has drawn national attention, with traditional rites ongoing in Kumasi ahead of the final funeral ceremony.
KNUST joins other institutions and the wider Kumasi community in observing this period of mourning and respect for the revered Queen Mother.
