The Northern Regional Police Command has restored calm at the Tamale Technical University (TaTU) following a violent student protest on Tuesday morning.
According to police, intelligence indicated that around 9:00 a.m., about 500 students massed in front of the school’s administration block to stage an unlawful demonstration. The protest escalated when students set vehicle tyres ablaze at key locations, including the main entrance of the school from the Tamale Secondary School (TAMASCO) direction, the Police Post at Kpalsi, and directly in front of the administration block.
A police team led by Superintendent Richard Lantei Odartey was deployed to restore order. However, upon arrival, officers were met with hostility as students hurled stones at them. The clashes resulted in injuries to three students and three police officers, all of whom are currently receiving medical treatment. Fortunately, no damage was recorded to school property or police facilities.

Police successfully brought the situation under control and have since stationed a temporary team on campus to prevent further disturbances.
In a statement, Chief Inspector Luckman Niendow Alhassan, Regional Public Relations Officer of the Northern Region Police Command, assured the public that calm has been fully restored and law and order maintained at the university.
