Police Arrest Seven Over Highway Robbery on Tamale–Buipe Road

The Ghana Police Service has arrested seven persons in connection with a highway robbery incident that occurred along the Tamale–Buipe Highway in the Savannah Region on July 21, 2025. The suspects have been identified as Rashida Yusif, Aaron Abana Baswiefanga, Wilson Avasong, Muntaru Iddrisu, also known as Virgin, Aminu Zebrilla, also known as Birdman, Inusah Sumaila, also known as Agenda, and Haruna Safiano. Key Suspect Arrested in Ongoing Hunt to Dismantle Wapuli Kidnapping Syndicate

The Northern Regional Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) has made a major breakthrough in the ongoing investigations into a kidnapping syndicate operating in Wapuli, with the arrest of a key suspect after weeks of intensive surveillance and intelligence-led operations. The case dates back to December 6, 2025, when PID officers successfully rescued a 42-year-old man who had been abducted by the gang in Wapuli. The operation led to the arrest of three suspects, believed to be members of a four-man kidnapping syndicate. Police Intercept bus with over 1,000 rounds of ammunition

Police have arrested a commercial bus driver and his mate after intercepting a Savelugu-bound bus carrying a large cache of ammunition. The suspects, Mohammed Gzali (42) and Mohammed Jabir, were arrested on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at about 7:00 p.m. at the Kantanso–Asankare Police Barrier during a routine inspection of a Kia Grand Bird bus (AK 1309–21) travelling from Accra to Tamale and Savelugu. A search of the vehicle uncovered a fertiliser sack hidden among passengers’ luggage, containing 1,050 rounds of AAA and BB cartridges. The driver told police the sack was given to him at the terminal as a parcel to be delivered to a person he knows only as “Oboye” in Tamale. The Special Operations Team of the Ghana Police Service has arrested a man at Kpalsi, a suburb of Tamale, in connection with dried leaves suspected to be marijuana, with an estimated street value of about GHS80,000. According to police sources, the arrest was made during an operation at a residential building in the area. The suspect was picked up while visiting the home of a friend who is believed to be directly linked to the case. MTN Ghana presents hampers to Christmas babies in Tamale

MTN Ghana has presented 30 hampers to babies born on Christmas Day; December 25, at the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) and the Tamale West Hospital in the Northern Region.  The donation formed part of the company’s annual goodwill initiative to recognise babies born on December 25 and support their mothers during the festive season.  The hampers contained essential baby care items including diapers, wipes, detergents, comforters, feeding bowls, breastfeeding bottles, and other cosmetics.   At the TTH, 16 babies were delivered comprising nine males and seven females including some twin births.   Three mothers underwent emergency caesarean section while the rest had spontaneous vaginal deliveries.  The Tamale West Hos...

Police arrest 27 suspects in major crackdown on drug peddling in Northern Region

The Northern Regional Police Command, in collaboration with the Inspector-General of Police’s (IGP) Special Operations Team, has arrested 27 suspects in a major anti-drug operation aimed at curbing drug peddling and related criminal activities across the region.
