The Northern Regional Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) has made a major breakthrough in the ongoing investigations into a kidnapping syndicate operating in Wapuli, with the arrest of a key suspect after weeks of intensive surveillance and intelligence-led operations.
The case dates back to December 6, 2025, when PID officers successfully rescued a 42-year-old man who had been abducted by the gang in Wapuli. The operation led to the arrest of three suspects, believed to be members of a four-man kidnapping syndicate.
According to police sources, the victim was held under severe threat and sustained serious injuries during captivity. The kidnappers demanded a ransom of GH¢100,000, of which GH¢90,000 was paid before his release. Police later retrieved GH¢70,000 of the ransom during follow-up operations.

Determined to bring all those involved to justice, the Police Intelligence Directorate sustained its investigations and launched a manhunt for the remaining accomplice, believed to be the ringleader of the group.
That effort paid off in the early hours of Tuesday, January 20, 2026, when police arrested Hoyeefe Amadu, identified as the fourth and key suspect. He was apprehended at about 1:30 a.m. from his hideout in a village approximately 10 kilometres outside Watugu, a suburb of Gushegu in the Northern Region.
The three previously arrested suspects have since been remanded into prison custody and are expected to reappear before the court as investigations continue.
Police say the latest arrest marks a significant step toward dismantling the criminal network and reaffirm their commitment to protecting residents and ensuring those involved in violent crimes are brought to justice.
