Austria to Host Ghana in Pre-World Cup Friendly in Vienna

Austria will host Ghana in an international friendly at the Ernst Happel Stadium in Vienna as part of both nations’ preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be staged in Canada, Mexico and the United States in June.

Both teams have already secured qualification for the global showpiece. Ghana’s Black Stars have been drawn in Group I alongside England, Croatia and Panama, while Austria will compete in Group J with reigning world champions Argentina, Algeria and Jordan.

The encounter against Austria forms part of two high-profile friendly matches lined up for Ghana in March as the team fine-tunes preparations for the tournament. The Black Stars are also scheduled to face Germany in their second friendly on Monday, March 30, 2026.

The match against Austria is set for Friday, March 27, 2026, with kick-off scheduled for 17:00 GMT.

Ghana will begin their 2026 World Cup campaign against Panama on Wednesday, June 17, in Toronto. This will be followed by a clash with England in Boston on June 23, before wrapping up their group-stage fixtures against Croatia on June 27, 2026.

The upcoming friendlies are expected to provide head coach and technical team with a valuable opportunity to assess squad readiness ahead of the world’s biggest football tournament.
