New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirant hopeful, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident at the El Wak Sports Stadium that claimed the lives of several young Ghanaians during the 2025/2026 Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) recruitment exercise.
In a heartfelt statement, Hon. Agyapong extended his condolences to the bereaved families and those who sustained injuries during the stampede. He described the event as a national tragedy that should never have happened.
“I am deeply saddened by the tragic loss of lives at the El Wak Sports Stadium, where young Ghanaians seeking enlistment into the military lost their lives in a stampede. My heartfelt condolences go to the families of the deceased and those injured. No parent should ever have to bury a child who only sought an honest opportunity to serve their country,” he said.

The outspoken politician further wished the injured a speedy recovery, noting that the thoughts and prayers of the entire nation are with them, especially those in intensive care.
Hon. Agyapong emphasized that the incident highlights the urgent need for Ghana to transform its economy to create more sustainable employment opportunities for the youth.
“This tragedy is a painful reminder of the urgent need to transform our economy so that opportunity is not a scarce privilege but a national guarantee. No Ghanaian youth should ever die in the pursuit of employment,” he added.
He called for swift action toward industrialization, job creation, and policies that restore dignity to work and bring hope to young people across the country.
“We must industrialize, create sustainable jobs, and build a system that restores dignity to work and hope to our young people,” Agyapong stressed.
Concluding his message, the NPP presidential hopeful prayed for the souls of the departed and urged Ghanaians to use this tragedy as a call to build a nation where “no one is left behind.”
“May the souls of the departed rest in perfect peace, and may this moment awaken in us a renewed commitment to building a Ghana where no one is left behind,” he said.
The El Wak Stadium stampede has sparked widespread grief and concern, reigniting discussions on youth unemployment and the need for systemic reforms to prevent such incidents in the future.
