GES Confirms 2025/2026 Academic Calendar, Introduces Off-Campus Learning for Transitional Schools

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has confirmed that the 2025/2026 academic calendar for Senior High Schools (SHS) and Senior High Technical Schools (SHTS) remains unchanged. Management has also made provisions to support online and off-campus learning for students in transitional schools.
According to the GES, the calendar for single-track schools is as follows: Forms 1 and 2 will report to school from 5th January to 27th February 2026, break from 27th February to 3rd May 2026, and resume on 4th May, concluding the academic year on 21st August. Form 3 students will report on 5th January, break from 28th February to 13th March, and return from 14th March to 21st June 2026.
For transitional schools, the calendar has been tailored to include online and off-campus learning. Form 3 students will report from 5th January to 31st March 2026, observe Easter break from 1st to 8th April, and resume on 9th April until 21st June. Form 2 students will have online/off-campus learning from 16th March to 17th April, followed by vacation from 18th April to 17th May, and report to school from 18th May to 4th September 2026. Form 1 students will begin online/off-campus learning from 5th to 30th January, then proceed on vacation from 31st January to 15th March, return to school from 16th March to 17th May, continue online/off-campus from 18th May to 12th June, take another vacation from 13th June to 2nd July, and finish the academic year on 4th September 2026.
To support students during online/off-campus learning periods, the GES has outlined three key provisions:
Projects and Assignments: Students will undertake approved projects and assignments using textbooks and curriculum resources available for free at curriculumresources.edu.gh.
TV Broadcast Lessons: Daily lessons will be broadcast live on the Ministry of Education TV (MoE TV) via Multi TV.
School-based Learning Management Systems (LMS): Schools with LMS platforms are urged to fully operationalize them during online/off-campus periods, with GES support.
Management emphasized that online/off-campus periods are not vacations or breaks, but mandatory parts of teaching and learning. Parents, guardians, teachers, and heads of schools are urged to supervise and support students to ensure full participation.
The announcement was signed by Daniel Fenyi, Head of Public Relations, Ghana Education Service.
