Former Vice President of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has expressed profound sorrow over the death of the Asante Mamponghene, Daasebre Nana Osei Bonsu II, describing the news as “devastating.”

In a heartfelt statement issued following the announcement, Dr. Bawumia said the late traditional ruler held a special place in his life and that of his wife, Samira Bawumia.

“Today is a very sad day for me. The announcement of the passing of the occupant of the Silver Stool, Daasebre Nana Osei Bonsu II, is not just shocking but devastating to me,” Dr. Bawumia wrote. “Daasebre was a father to me and my wife, Samira. We enjoyed and cherished his wise counsel and support throughout our public and private lives.”

He praised the late chief for his wisdom, warmth, and inclusive leadership, describing him as a “genuine soul who was all-embracing and non-discriminatory.”

The former Vice President extended his condolences to the late chief’s wife and family, as well as the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the people of Asanteman, and the entire Asante Mampong traditional area.

“Kontonkyi Due!” he added in a solemn farewell to the revered traditional leader.

Daasebre Nana Osei Bonsu II served as a key figure in the Asante Kingdom, occupying the revered Silver Stool of Mampong and playing a significant role in traditional governance, peacebuilding, and cultural preservation within the Ashanti Region and beyond.
