Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has officially declared his intention to contest the National Chairman position of the party.
In a statement announcing his decision, Chairman Wontumi said his move comes at a critical time when the party must reflect on its recent challenges and the hard lessons learned along the way. According to him, the NPP now requires leadership that is steady, principled, and deeply committed to unity.
“Our party has faced challenges and learned hard lessons along the way. At this critical moment, the NPP demands leadership that is firm, courageous, and focused on rebuilding trust,” he stated.

Chairman Wontumi described himself as a grassroots-oriented leader who values every member of the party, from respected elders to the energetic youth and party foot soldiers. He stressed that his decision to run is not driven by personal ambition, but by a strong desire to strengthen, rebuild, and unify the New Patriotic Party.
“I am ready to make the ultimate sacrifices for the party. Leadership at this moment requires bravery — the courage to stand firm, make difficult decisions, and be willing to lose everything if necessary for the sake of the NPP,” he said.
He further expressed confidence in his preparedness for the task ahead, noting that his team is organized and ready to face the challenges that come with leading the party into the future.
“We are ready. We are organized. We are built for the battle ahead,” Chairman Wontumi declared.
Looking ahead to the 2028 general elections, he said his vision is to restore confidence within the party, empower the grassroots, and position the NPP for a decisive electoral victory.
“This is our moment to rise, to lead, and to deliver for the NPP,” he added.
Chairman Wontumi concluded his declaration with prayers for the party, Ghana’s democracy, and the nation as a whole.
