AHF Urges Global HIV Data Audit as UNAIDS 55th PCB Meeting Ends In Nairobi

Following the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) 55th Programme Coordinating Board (PCB) meeting in Nairobi, Kenya, the AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) has renewed its call for a comprehensive global audit of HIV data. This renewed urgency follows a news report on UNAIDS' latest 95-95-95 epidemic control progress report, which states that six African nations, alongside Kenya, have met testing and treatment targets for the general population. ‘I thought I would die’ – freed captive tells BBC of life in West African jihadist base

A man from Ghana has told the BBC how he was seized at gunpoint by jihadists in neighbouring Burkina Faso, before being taken to their vast desert camp where he gained a rare insight into their lives - from the children he believed were trained as suicide bombers, to the tunnels they had dug to shield themselves and their armoured tanks from air strikes. "I thought that was the end. I was just sweating," James said, adding that he also ended up wetting his pants when some fighters hit him with their guns - and laughed.  James, wh...

The United States, through USAID, is providing nearly $29 million in additional assistance to build resilience and improve food security for Somalia’s most vulnerable people. In Somalia, an estimated 6.9 million people require humanitarian assistance in 2024 due to the combined impacts of severe weather events, insecurity, disease outbreaks, and widespread poverty. Excessive rains and flooding, which were particularly destructive in 2023 due to the El Niño phenomenon, resulted in the destruction of property, loss of livelihoods and access to basic services, further population displacement, and an increase in cholera and other water-borne diseases, particularly affecting the most vulnerable.  This additional assistance, representing the first year of two new five-year resilience ...
