Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak Unite to Demand Major Reforms in Ghana Premier League

Ghanaian football giants Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak have issued a joint statement calling for urgent reforms in the Ghana Premier League, including the establishment of an independent body to manage the competition. In the statement, signed by Nana Apinkra Akwasi Awua and Togbe Afede XIV, the two clubs emphasised the need for an autonomous league management body to take over the running of the league from the Ghana Football Association (GFA) as soon as possible. ” Among their key demands, Kotoko and Hearts are pushing for stricter adherence to stadium requirements, insisting that matches should only be played at venues that meet the necessary standards. In relation to the violent incidents that broke out during the February 2, 2025, football game between Nsoatreman FC and Kumasi Asante Kotoko FC, the Ghana Police Service has detained an additional suspect. The suspect was arrested as part of an ongoing investigation and was identified as Elizabeth Akosua Ntiriwaa, also known as Akosua Black Chinese. Six individuals have been detained in connection with the event after her detention. As the police continue their efforts to capture everyone responsible for the disruptions, Ntiriwaa is now helping with investigations, they said.
