Asante Kotoko SC and Accra Hearts of Oak, Ghana’s two most successful football teams, have united to demand increased security in the Ghana Premier League.
Together, the two teams have written a position paper for the Ghana Football Association (GFA) that includes important suggestions for enhancing stadium safety.
During a strategic meeting in Accra, representatives from the Hearts of Oak Board and Management and Asante Kotoko’s Interim Management Committee (IMC) talked about the league’s urgent problems, with security being a major concern.
This action is taken in advance of their planned meeting with the Executive Committee of the GFA on Thursday, February 6, 2025.
The recent tragic death of Nana Pooley, a loyal Asante Kotoko supporter, has increased the clubs’ worries. They said his passing served as a heartbreaking reminder of how vital it is to protect all football fans.
Both teams reiterated their resolve to stop similar occurrences in the future. As they offered their condolences to Kotoko, the Hearts of Oak Board promised to collaborate with them and other interested parties to make sure Nana Pooley’s death would not be in vain.
As part of their suggestions, Kotoko and Hearts are pushing for the implementation of more stringent security measures and improved cooperation with important parties, including as the government, the GFA, law enforcement, and football fans. Creating a fun and safe football environment is their ultimate objective.
The two clubs are now calling on the Ghana Football Association to act quickly and forcefully in order to put the suggestions made in their position paper into practice.
