Akandoh Convenes Health Sector Leadership for 2025 Performance Review Retreat

In a strategic move to strengthen Ghana’s health system and enhance service delivery, the Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has assembled the leadership of the health sector for a two-day high-level retreat at Ada.

The meeting, dubbed “Ministry of Health 2025 Performance Review and Outlook for 2026,” brings together key stakeholders including the Chief Director and Directors of the Ministry of Health (MoH), Board Chairmen and Members, Heads of Agencies, representatives from Civil Society Organizations, and other invited stakeholders.

The retreat is aimed at maximizing productivity within the health sector and ensuring the delivery of quality, efficient, and responsive healthcare services to the people of Ghana. Participants are expected to undertake a comprehensive review of the sector’s performance in 2025, identify operational and systemic bottlenecks, align sector priorities, and strengthen coordination across institutions in preparation for 2026.

The programme officially commenced on Monday, 12th January 2026, with opening remarks from the Chief Director of the Ministry of Health, followed by an address from Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, who emphasized accountability, performance-driven leadership, and results-oriented planning within the health sector.

Over the two days, detailed presentations are being delivered by various MoH Directorates, including Policy, Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation; Human Resource for Health; Infrastructure; Training and Capacity Development; Technical Assistance and Donor Coordination, among others. These sessions focus on performance assessment, policy implementation challenges, and strategic planning for the year ahead.

Key health institutions such as the Ghana Health Service, National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, and Tamale Teaching Hospital are also presenting their performance reports and institutional outlooks, providing insights into service delivery, financing, infrastructure, and human resource management.

Additionally, the retreat features presentations from regulatory bodies and professional councils, including the Nursing and Midwifery Council, Medical and Dental Council, Allied Health Professions Council, and Pharmacy Council. These presentations offer a holistic assessment of the sector’s regulatory framework and its impact on healthcare delivery.

The retreat underscores the Ministry of Health’s commitment to evidence-based planning, institutional collaboration, and continuous improvement, as the sector positions itself to address emerging health challenges and improve outcomes for all Ghanaians in 2026 and beyond.
