Western North Peace Council, NCCE Sensitize Watico Demonstration JHS Students on Peace and Online Safety

The Western North Regional office of the National Peace Council, in collaboration with the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), has organized a Peace Education and Online Safety sensitization programme for students of Watico Demonstration Junior High School.

The outreach programme, held on March 3, 2026, forms part of ongoing efforts to promote peaceful coexistence and responsible digital behaviour among young people in the region.

Promoting Peaceful Conflict Resolution

Students were taken through practical lessons on conflict resolution, responsible behaviour, and the importance of dialogue in resolving disagreements. Facilitators encouraged learners to adopt non-violent approaches in handling disputes both within and outside the school environment.

Speaking during the programme, the Acting Regional Executive Secretary of the Western North Regional Peace Council, Madam Elizabeth Boduwah, urged students to reject bullying, fighting, and all forms of intimidation.

She emphasized that schools must remain safe spaces where every child can learn, grow, and thrive without fear.

“Peace starts with you,” she told the students, stressing that their daily actions and choices contribute significantly to building harmonious communities.

Online Safety and Civic Responsibility

Officials from the NCCE also educated students on their constitutional rights and responsibilities as young citizens. The session highlighted the dangers of cyberbullying, online harassment, and unsafe internet practices.

Students were advised to be cautious about the information they share online, avoid engaging in harmful digital behavior, and report suspicious or abusive online activities to trusted adults or authorities.

The facilitators underscored the need for digital awareness in an era where internet usage among young people continues to rise.

Building a Peaceful and Digitally Aware Generation

The programme concluded with an interactive session where students asked questions and shared their experiences regarding peer conflict and online challenges.

Through initiatives like this, the National Peace Council and the National Commission for Civic Education reaffirm their commitment to nurturing a generation of responsible, peaceful, and digitally conscious young citizens.

As the campaign message echoed throughout the school compound:

Peace begins with knowledge. Peace begins with our youth.
