Fifty-two exceptional school children from across the country were honoured at this year’s President’s Independence Day Awards ceremony held on Wednesday at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).
The Deputy Minister for Education, Clement Apaak, represented the Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, at the prestigious event. He joined the Vice President of the Republic, Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, to celebrate the academic achievements of the awardees.
Inclusive Selection Across All Regions

In his remarks, Dr. Apaak commended the Ghana Education Service (GES) for conducting what he described as an inclusive and transparent selection process. He noted that this year’s awards ensured participation from all 16 regions of Ghana, with students drawn from both public and private basic schools.
According to him, the inclusive approach reinforces the national principle that excellence must be discovered everywhere and that opportunities must be accessible to every deserving Ghanaian child.
A Legacy of Academic Excellence
Established in 1993, the President’s Independence Day Awards Scheme has grown into one of Ghana’s most respected platforms for recognising academic excellence among basic school pupils. Over the past three decades, the awards have maintained a reputation for integrity and merit-based selection.
Dr. Apaak emphasised that the sustained credibility of the scheme continues to inspire pupils across the country to strive for academic distinction.
Appreciation to Nestlé Ghana
On behalf of the Education Minister, the Deputy Minister expressed profound gratitude to Nestlé Ghana Limited for its continuous sponsorship and partnership.
He acknowledged the company’s three decades of support, noting that its contribution has played a significant role in the growth, sustainability, and success of the awards programme.
The ceremony brought together government officials, education stakeholders, parents, and pupils in a celebration of academic excellence and national pride, as Ghana marks its Independence anniversary.
