Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang Meets Complementary Education Agency Leadership

Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has held a meeting with the leadership of the Complementary Education Agency (CEA) as part of efforts to strengthen the delivery of complementary education across the country.

The meeting, which took place at the Vice President’s Office, was led by the Acting Executive Director of the Agency, Hon. Daniel Kwasi Ashiamah. Discussions centered on ways to enhance the Agency’s capacity to improve access to quality education for children who are outside the formal school system.

During the engagement, Vice President Opoku-Agyemang raised concerns about staffing shortages at the Agency, noting that the challenge continues to affect its ability to sustain and expand its operations nationwide. She emphasized the need for adequate human resources to support the Agency’s growing mandate.

The Vice President also highlighted the Agency’s past successes, particularly the remarkable learning outcomes achieved through mother-tongue instruction. She recalled instances where learners were able to complete nearly two years’ worth of syllabus content within nine months when taught in local languages, underscoring the effectiveness of this approach in improving comprehension and learning outcomes.

Touching on skills development, Vice President Opoku-Agyemang noted that education extends beyond the confines of the classroom. She encouraged the Agency to explore partnerships with local craftsmen and skilled professionals within communities, many of whom could volunteer their time and expertise to support learners and provide practical skills training.

She expressed Government’s appreciation for the critical role played by the Complementary Education Agency in expanding access to education, especially for children who would otherwise be left behind. The Vice President assured the Agency of Government’s readiness to offer the necessary support to strengthen its work.

She reaffirmed Government’s commitment to inclusive education as a key pillar of national development, stressing that ensuring equal access to education will help guarantee that the benefits of development reach all segments of society.
