The Tema Regional Police Command has intercepted a total of 1,613 parcels of substances suspected to be narcotic drugs following a well-coordinated, intelligence-led operation along the Akosombo–Tema road.
The major breakthrough forms part of ongoing efforts by the Police to disrupt drug trafficking activities within the Tema Region and beyond.
According to the Police, the operation was initiated after intelligence was received on 10th January 2026 indicating that suspected narcotic substances were being transported from the Volta Region toward Tema. Acting swiftly on the information, police teams mounted surveillance along the route, with particular focus on the Agomeda Junction area.

At about 12:45 a.m. on 11th January 2026, officers intercepted two vehicles — a white Toyota Highlander (GS 2013-13) and a black Mitsubishi Pajero (GC 400-22). The vehicles were being driven by Isaac Odoi, 33, and Kwame Mani, 39.
A search conducted on the vehicles led to the discovery of several compressed yellow-wrapped parcels suspected to be narcotic drugs. The suspects were immediately arrested, and both vehicles were escorted to the police station for further action.
On 12th January 2026, the suspects and exhibits were handed over to the Regional Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Tema, where photographs and inventories were taken. Preliminary findings revealed that 872 parcels were retrieved from the Mitsubishi Pajero, while 741 parcels were found in the Toyota Highlander, bringing the total to 1,613 parcels.
The suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigations. Samples of the suspected substances will be forwarded to the Forensic Crime Laboratory for testing. Police have also indicated that searches will be conducted at the suspects’ places of residence as part of ongoing investigations, while preparations are underway to process the suspects for court.
The Tema Regional Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying operations against drug trafficking and other criminal activities. The Command has also appealed to the public to continue providing credible information to support law enforcement efforts and help keep communities safe.
