Health Ministry creates Donation Desk to aid tax exemptions on medical equipment/materials

The Ministry of Health has created a Donation Desk to facilitate efforts by philanthropists and corporate entities that desired to bring medical equipment and materials outside of Ghana. Mr Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the Minister of Health, announced this to the Parliamentary press corps in Accra on Tuesday, explaining that the move, would enable the Ministry to pursue tax waivers on those equipment or materials for the common good of the people of Ghana. Finance Minister raises concerns over tax exemptions and extractive sector under-capitalization

Finance minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has expressed serious concerns about the negative impact of tax exemptions on Ghana's revenue mobilisation and the under-capitalisation of the extractive sector. He highlighted the significant fiscal challenges facing the nation, stressing that tax exemptions on Value Added Tax (VAT), Personal Income Tax (PIT), and import duties are estimated to result in a "staggering" 3.9 percent loss of GDP.
