Chieftaincy Navrongo: Kingmakers kick against alleged ‘unilateral’ elevation of chiefs

Chieftaincy tension is looming in Navrongo in the Upper East Region following an alleged attempt by the Navro-Pio, Pe Denis Belinia Aniakwa Adda Asagpare II, Paramount Chief of  Navrongo Traditional Area to ‘unilaterally’ elevate three divisional chiefs to paramountcy status. The three chiefs are Manyoro Pe, Pungu Pe, and Pindaa Pe. At a joint press conference held in Navrongo, the kingmakers (kwarayigna), council of elders, the royal navro-pio family and siblings of the navro-pio had called for a halt to the  processes, alleging the move was violation of established customary procedures. A two-day training workshop for selected officers of various security agencies in the Northern Region has been held in Tamale. It was organised by the Catholic Relief Services (CRS), an International NGO, in collaboration with the National Peace Council, under the Prevention of Violent Extremism Through Social Accountability (PoVETSA) phase II project, with funding support from the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Northern Ghana will not experience fuel shortage-NPA
