One suspect arrested following petition over false Galamsey claims

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has arrested a suspect in connection with a petition calling for an inquiry into alleged false claims related to galamsey activities. The petition, submitted by Mr. Daniel Sasu Omari and two others on behalf of the Ashanti, Eastern, and Western Regional Ministers, requested a full investigation into the matter. Acting on the petition, the CID picked up the suspect, identified as Wendell Nana Yaw Yeboah, to assist with ongoing investigations. Police arrest 16 suspects for illegal mining at Manso Adubia

The Ghana Police Service has arrested sixteen (16) suspects during an anti-illegal mining operation at Essuminya and Apraprama Forest Reserves in the Ashanti Region. Police act against galamsey, destroy 120 changfang machines 

The Western Central Regional Police Command has disabled 120 changfang machines used for illegal mining at Wassa Gyapa in the Western Region.   The operation, conducted on May 19, 2025, also led to the arrest of 13 suspects.   A press release copied to the Ghana News Agency said the action was part of sustained anti-galamsey operations in the region.   The suspects were named as Nana Ampadu, Stephen Tetteh, Yaw Dalame, Samuel Amoah, Kwame Oppong, Francis Oduom, Owusu Asare, Atta Kwame, Apiyanga Emmanuel, Kojo Montanakito, Maxwell Owusu, Obofo Vincent, and Soogal Fataw.   "Six motorbikes were retrieved from the site in addition to over one hundred and twenty (120) changfang machines that were disabled," the statement added.   The suspec...

Police Update on fight against illegal mining: 99 Excavators retrieved, 208 suspects arrested

The Ghana Police Service has intensified its nationwide crackdown on illegal mining (galamsey) operations. From March 2025 to date, the Service has conducted a series of targeted operations in communities affected by illegal mining activities. So far, 208 suspects have been arrested, including eight (8) Chinese nationals. In the course of these operations, police have retrieved eighty-five (85) excavators and three (3) bulldozers believed to have been used in the illegal mining operations.
