Hollard International (https://apo-opa.info/3tUpGWD) will extend its footprint in Africa through the finalisation, on 31 October 2023, of an agreement to acquire a significant interest in Apollo Investments Limited, the holding company of Kenya-headquartered insurer APA Insurance. This strategic investment, subject to regulatory approvals, gives Hollard International a presence in the East African market, supplementing its existing operations in Southern and West Africa. Hollard becomes the second international investor in the Kenyan group, following Swiss Re, which acquired a stake in 2014. Botswana’s Debswana terminates mining contract with Australia’s Thiess

Debswana Mining Company, owned by De Beers and the Botswana government, said on Tuesday it has terminated a $1.3 billion contract with a unit of Australia’s Thiess to extend the lifespan of its Jwaneng diamond mine and will carry out the project in-house. Debswana, among the world’s largest diamond producers, declined to provide a reason for terminating the contract for the extension project, known as Cut 9, which was awarded to Majwe Mining in 2019. The Confederation of African Football (CAF), has appointed Joshua Bondo from Botswana to handle Ghana’s 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sudan. Mr Bondo will be assisted by compatriots Mogomotsi Morakile (Assistant I), Kegakologetswe Lucky (Assistant II) and Tshepo Mokani (fourth official). Botswana president goes into coronavirus quarantine

Botswana President Mokgweetsi Masisi has quarantined himself after an official working closely with him tested positive for Covid-19, a government statement says. Some other people in the president's inner circle are also self-isolating, it adds. The government encourages people to continue taking precautions in order to prevent the spread of the virus. The country of 2.25 million people has so far recorded 227 cases of the virus and one death.
