The Private Newspapers and Online News Publishers Association of Ghana (PRINPAG) strongly denounces the rampant destruction of Ghana’s environment, water bodies, and forest cover due to illegal mining (galamsey) activities. We consider this devastation a grave threat to the well-being of Ghanaians and the country’s future.
This is contained in a statement issued by PRINPAG and signed by Mr. Andrew Edwi Arthur, the president of the association in Accra yesterday, 10th September, 2024.
We urge our members to join the national fight against galamsey and expose those involved. We encourage members to;
Publish names and pictures of individuals and groups engaged in galamsey on their front pages and websites,
Resist inducements that could compromise their efforts, Support the Media Coalition for enforcements
We call on Parliament to demonstrate leadership and act without partisanship. We also urge state institutions to enforce laws governing environmental sustainability and economic development. Technology should be leveraged to address environmental challenges.
Members found to be involved in galamsey or attempting to sabotage PRINPAG’s efforts will face expulsion from the association.
We believe that together, we can win the fight against galamsey. Let us unite to protect Ghana’s environment for future generations.
