Porcupine Tertiary, a prominent supporters’ group, has announced an indefinite suspension of its support and presence at all league centres, including Baba Yara Stadium, following the tragic killing of one of its members, Frimpong Yaw Francis, also known as Pooley.
Pooley was reportedly stabbed to death during a football match between Nsotreman FC and Asante Kotoko FC, a shocking incident that has left the football community in mourning. In a press release, Porcupine Tertiary condemned the act as barbaric and called on authorities to swiftly bring those responsible to justice.
This could have been any one of us, and if we do not take a stand now, we risk normalising violence in the very space we hold dear,†the statement read.
The group emphasised that football should never be a place of fear, violence, or loss of life. As a result, it has taken the decision to withdraw its support from all league venues until justice is served.
We refuse to allow Pooley’s death to be swept under the rug as just another unfortunate incident. His death cannot and will not be forgotten,†the statement continued.
Porcupine Tertiary is urging all football stakeholders, security agencies, and authorities to take immediate action to ensure the safety of fans at stadiums.
The tragic event has reignited concerns over security at football matches in Ghana, with calls for stricter measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
Pooley’s death has sent shockwaves through the football fraternity, with fans and clubs expressing their condolences and demanding accountability. The hashtag #JusticeforPooley has been widely shared on social media as supporters rally for justice.
Porcupine Tertiary has vowed to continue advocating for safer stadiums and a football environment free from violence.
