Police Arrest seven Notorious Highway Robbery Suspects; Firearms and Exhibits retrieved

The Accra Regional Police Command, in collaboration with the Eastern Regional Police Command, has arrested seven suspected members of a notorious highway robbery syndicate believed to be responsible for a series of violent robberies across the Greater Accra, Eastern, and Ashanti Regions.

According to the Police, the syndicate is linked to an armed robbery incident that occurred on 29 November 2025 at Peduase, Aburi, where the suspects attacked a residence and robbed occupants of mobile phones, jewellery, and an unspecified amount of cash while armed with firearms.

Following intelligence-led investigations, officers from the Eastern Regional Police Intelligence Directorate (PID), working jointly with the Accra Regional PID, arrested Kofi Ishmael, aged 30, on 6 January 2026 at Avenor, Accra. During interrogation, the suspect admitted his involvement in the robbery.

Acting on information obtained from the suspect, Police arrested Kwame Bediako at Ablekuma Agape. A search conducted at his residence led to the retrieval of a pump-action gun concealed in a fence wall, along with four (4) BB cartridges. The suspect reportedly admitted his involvement in several robbery cases and was identified as the ringleader of the syndicate.

Further investigations revealed that the group was involved in multiple highway robberies targeting motorists and trailer drivers along major routes, including the Tema Motorway, Achimota Forest Road, Pokuase, Amasaman, Suhum, Nkawkaw, and the Juaso–Kumasi stretch. Police disclosed that the suspects were preparing to embark on another robbery operation at the time of their arrest.

  • Salia Mohammed, alias Kwaku Nuah, aged 27
  • Kofi Ishmael, alias Ishmael Addo or Kofi Ketewa, aged 32

Investigations have also linked the suspects to several previous robbery cases, including attacks on market women and motorists, as well as a fatal robbery incident in which a driver lost his life. Police further revealed that some of the suspects had jumped bail in earlier cases currently pending before the courts.

Exhibits retrieved so far include firearms, ammunition, machetes, knives, mobile phones, and other items suspected to be proceeds of crime. Efforts are ongoing to arrest remaining accomplices believed to be at large.
