NCA Moves to Suspend Multichoice Ghana’s Pay TV Authorisation Over Pricing Concerns

The National Communications Authority (NCA) has officially notified Multichoice Ghana Limited of its intention to suspend the company’s Subscription Management Service Authorisation for its Satellite Television Broadcasting (Pay TV Direct-to-Home Bouquet).

According to a press release issued by the Authority on Wednesday, the decision follows concerns over the company’s current pricing model, which the regulator deems contrary to the public interest.

The NCA is acting under Section 13 of the Electronic Communications Act, 2008 (Act 775), which allows the Authority to take such regulatory measures when service providers are found to be in breach of conditions that protect consumer rights or public interest.

Multichoice Ghana has been given a 30-day window to respond. Within this period, the company may submit its views, propose remedial actions, or file a written statement objecting to the suspension.

This regulatory move has stirred discussions among stakeholders, particularly Pay TV consumers, many of whom have long expressed concerns about recurring price hikes and value for service.

The NCA reiterated its commitment to ensuring fairness, transparency, and protection of consumers in the country’s electronic communications sector.
