His Royal Majesty Ndan Ya-Na Abukari II, King of Dagbon, has expressed profound grief over the tragic military helicopter crash that claimed eight lives at the Dampia Range Forest Reserve in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.
In a statement, the King extended heartfelt condolences to the Government and People of Ghana, the bereaved families, and all those affected by the national tragedy, describing it as one of the most devastating incidents in recent history.
Among the victims were two prominent sons of Dagbon — Hon. Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Mohammed Murtala and Hon. Alhaji Muniru Mohammed — as well as six other “brave and distinguished citizens” whose contributions to the progress, security, and prosperity of the nation were acknowledged by the Chief of Staff, Hon. Julius Debrah.

“This monumental tragedy is a heartbreaking blow to the soul of the nation,” the King said, adding that Dagbon stands united in mourning with the rest of the country. “The loss is not only for their families and communities, but for all Ghanaians.”
The King prayed for the eternal rest of the victims, asking Almighty Allah to grant them Jannatul Firdaus and to comfort the grieving families. He also called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances of the crash, linking the tragedy to the urgent need to address illegal mining (galamsey) activities in the country.
“May this loss renew our determination to uphold national unity, stability, and the fight against galamsey,” he urged.
The statement, signed by Alhaji Abdul, Secretary to the Gbewaa Palace, concluded with the King’s assurance that the lives and service of the fallen will never be forgotten.
