NAC Breda Strengthen Squad with Experienced Forward André Ayew

In their battle for survival in the Vrienden Loterij Eredivisie, NAC Breda have added André Ayew (36) to their squad.

The experienced French-Ghanaian forward has signed a contract until the end of the current season, with a club option for an additional year in Breda.

Ayew turned down several (lucrative) opportunities in recent months after being without a club since last summer. His last competitive matches were played in May 2025 with Le Havre. During this period, Ayew maintained his fitness at Nania FC, the club owned by his father and African football legend Abédi Pelé.

The résumé of the more than 120-time Ghana international (24 goals for his national team) is impressive.

Ayew made his mark particularly at Olympique de Marseille, Swansea City, and West Ham United. He has played nearly 600 official matches across competitions such as the Champions League, Ligue 1, Ligue 2, Premier League, Championship, and the Turkish Süper Lig, scoring over 160 goals.

Ayew on his move to Breda:
“I am someone who loves challenges, both personally and as part of a team. I find that here at NAC. I want to do everything I can to help the club and my teammates. We are in a situation where staying in the Eredivisie is the only thing that matters. In that fight, the mental aspect may be the most important. Together with our supporters, we must fully commit to this battle in the second half of the season.”

Technical Director Peter Maas commented:
“André has made it very clear in our conversations that he wants to help NAC in the fight to avoid relegation. We are currently in a difficult position. Ayew has faced intense challenges throughout his career. He is a true professional who takes good care of himself. We believe his experience and specific qualities can be especially valuable for NAC right now.”

Ayew will join head coach Carl Hoefkens’ squad immediately. NAC will resume training on Friday, 2 January, at the B O Infra Training Complex in Zundert.
