The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has dismissed claims circulating online that it has approved an initiative for officials of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) to travel abroad to register and renew driving licences for Ghanaians living in the diaspora.
In a statement issued in Accra on Wednesday, the Ministry said its attention had been drawn to a viral news headline alleging that DVLA staff had been granted approval to operate in countries including the United States of America, Canada, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Germany.
However, the Ministry categorically denied the claim, stating that it has “neither issued a directive to our diplomatic missions abroad nor granted approval to any entity for such an arrangement.”

According to the statement, the Ministry is not aware of any new government policy authorising DVLA personnel to undertake overseas registration or renewal of Ghanaian driving licences.
“There is no record available at the Ministry pointing to this purported new policy direction,” the statement clarified.
The Ministry further emphasised that there has been no formal engagement on the matter, no new policy brought to its attention, and no financial commitment to support such an initiative.
“For the avoidance of doubt, there has been no formal engagement, no new policy brought to our attention and no financial commitment as irrefutable evidence at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs establishes,” it stressed.
The Ministry assured the general public of its continued commitment to transparency and financial prudence in the delivery of public services.
The clarification comes amid growing interest among members of the Ghanaian diaspora regarding access to essential services outside the country. Authorities are urging the public to disregard the viral claims and rely on official communication channels for verified information.
