The Eastern Regional Police Command has announced the closure of the Kukurantumi Police Station and the withdrawal of all police personnel from the community following violent attacks on the station.
According to police reports, the incident occurred on Sunday, September 21, 2025, around 7:00 a.m., when a group of irate youth launched an attack on the station and its barracks. Armed with stones, clubs, and other implements, the attackers attempted to set the building ablaze.
The unrest was triggered by the death of a suspect, Bright Kena, popularly known as D-ball, who had been arrested on charges of unlawful entry and stealing. He was reportedly on admission at the Kukurantumi Community Hospital at the time of his death, which sparked anger among sections of the youth.

A police reinforcement team was quickly dispatched to the area and managed to restore calm and order. The Eastern Regional Police Command has since engaged the deceased’s family and community leaders, assuring them of a thorough investigation into the matter.
Meanwhile, the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) and the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) have launched independent investigations into the circumstances surrounding the suspect’s death. Video footage of the attack on the station is also being reviewed to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
In a statement signed by Supt. George Peprah Mills, Staff Officer for the Eastern Regional Command, the police urged the public to avoid acts of violence and to resolve grievances through lawful means.
“The Command wishes to once again urge the public to use lawful means to resolve issues instead of resorting to violence,” the statement emphasized.
