The High Court of Ghana sitting in Wa has sentenced Shariff Abdulai, popularly known as “Cristos,” to life imprisonment with hard labour for the murder of Issah Yahaya and twenty-two (22) other persons across parts of northern Ghana.
The sentence was handed down on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, after the accused pleaded guilty to multiple counts of murder.
Guilty Plea in Open Court

Shariff Abdulai admitted to killing sixteen (16) people in Wa, five (5) in Bole, and one (1) each in Banda Nkwanta and Bamboi. His arrest followed sustained, intelligence-led police operations on October 6, 2025.
After investigations were completed, the case was committed from the District Magistrate Court to the High Court for trial. On March 4, 2026, the accused was formally arraigned before the court.
He was represented by counsel and entered a plea of guilty simpliciter to the charges. Upon his own plea, the presiding judge, His Lordship Justice Osei-Wusu Antwi, convicted and sentenced him to life imprisonment with hard labour.
To Serve Sentence at Nsawam
The convict is expected to serve his sentence at the Nsawam Medium Security Prison.
Police Reaffirm Commitment
In a statement following the sentencing, the Police Command reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to upholding the rule of law. Authorities emphasized that they will not relent in their efforts to ensure a safe and secure environment for all law-abiding citizens.
The case brings closure to a series of killings that had caused widespread fear and concern in the affected communities.
