Ghanaian Gospel Musician Maame Tiwaa Passes Away

Ghana’s gospel music fraternity is mourning the loss of one of its cherished voices, Maame Tiwaa, a renowned member of the Yaw Sarpong & Asomafo music group. Her passing marks the end of a remarkable decades-long contribution to gospel music in the country.

Maame Tiwaa’s musical journey began at just 10 years old, when she joined the Joyful Singers in Tanoso in the Ashanti Region. She dedicated close to six years to the group before they disbanded. It was during one of their performances that her talent caught the attention of Rev. Yaw Sarpong, who introduced her to the Ahinsan Gospel Singers, a group he was part of at the time.

She later left the group together with Rev. Sarpong to help establish what would become the iconic Asomafo music ministry. For more than 38 years, Maame Tiwaa served faithfully alongside him, becoming one of the most recognisable voices in Ghanaian gospel music.

She often credited her longevity in the industry spanning over 40 years to the mentorship and unwavering support of Rev. Yaw Sarpong, whom she described as a pillar in her musical journey. Her exceptional vocal abilities and dedication to ministry earned her immense respect across the country.

Maame Tiwaa’s passing is a significant loss to the gospel community, leaving behind a rich legacy of worship, mentorship, and inspiration. Her voice and impact will continue to resonate with gospel music lovers for generations.
