Ghana Armed Forces Conduct Search and Rescue Operation at Sea After Attack on Fishing Vessels

The Ghana Armed Forces has launched a search and rescue operation at sea following an attack on some fishing vessels off the coast of the Central Region.

According to a statement signed by Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin of the Ghana Navy, the operation began at dawn and is currently ongoing about 35 nautical miles off the coast of Senya Beraku.

The rescue mission is being led by the Ghana Navy with support from the Ghana Air Force. Military personnel are conducting coordinated air and sea patrols in the area to locate and assist affected fishermen and secure the waters.

The incident is reported to have occurred in the general vicinity where several fishing vessels operate. However, details regarding casualties, damages, or the identities of the attackers have not yet been disclosed.

The Ghana Armed Forces has appealed to the public to remain calm as efforts continue to ensure the safety of those involved and restore security in the area. Authorities have assured that further updates will be communicated as more information becomes available.

Captain Arhin, who serves as Acting Director General of Public Relations for the Ghana Navy, reaffirmed the military’s commitment to safeguarding Ghana’s territorial waters and protecting the livelihoods of citizens who depend on fishing activities along the coast.
