Former Kotoko Midfielder Shadrack Addo Joins Atlético Madrid

Former Asante Kotoko midfielder Shadrack Addo has taken a significant step in his career after securing a loan move to Spanish giants Atlético Madrid from Trival Valderas until the end of the 2025/26 season.

Addo, who was widely praised for his energy, work rate and technical ability during his time with the Porcupine Warriors, had been without a club since mutually terminating his contract with Kotoko in June 2024. His future had attracted considerable speculation, especially after he was spotted training with Hearts of Oak, fueling reports of a possible switch to Kotoko’s rivals.

Those rumours, however, did not materialise, as the midfielder later joined Spanish side Trival Valderas in the Segunda División. His performances in Spain have now earned him a major opportunity, culminating in a loan move to Atlético Madrid.

Before his European adventure, Addo featured prominently in the Ghana Premier League, making 25 appearances and scoring once across two seasons for Asante Kotoko.

His latest move adds him to a growing list of Ghanaian players making the transition from the domestic league to Spanish football, highlighting the rising recognition of local talent on the European stage. The transfer offers Addo a fresh start as he looks to further develop his game within Atlético Madrid’s renowned youth system, noted for producing disciplined and tactically sound players.

As he begins this new chapter in Madrid, Shadrack Addo will be eager to make the most of the opportunity and reignite his career on one of Europe’s biggest stages.
