Groundwater abstractions endanger Densu River Basin – CSIR-WRI warns

Groundwater levels in the Densu River Basin are declining, according to a study by the Water Research Institute of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR-WRI). The study, conducted from 2020 to 2023, revealed increasing groundwater abstractions, placing stress on the resource. “Scenario analysis reveals abstractions at the current rate over 20 years without changes to recharge rate, pose risks to stream flows and ecosystems, especially under drier climate conditions,” cautioned Mr. Bismark Awinbire Akurugu, a research scientist with CSIR-WRI’s Groundwater and Geoscience Division. Fatal accident claims five lives, injures 12 at Yamoransa   

Five people have perished, with 12 others sustaining various degrees of injuries, in a fatal accident that occurred at Wakrom near Yamoransa on the Cape Coast-Accra Highway. President Mahama breaks ground for Atimpoku to Aflao road under Big Push

President John Dramani Mahama, has broken grounds for the redevelopment of the Atimpoku to Aflao road under the Big Push Project. The 117 kilometre road will be from Atimpoku to Asikuma to Anyrawase to Ho to Denu to Aflao. President Mahama said the Big Push Project was a USD$10 billion project and there would not be a delay in the project which would start in 2025 since contractors would be paid timely.
