Vice President Jane Naana Spoke-Agyemang Celebrates Women’s Achievements on International Women’s Day

Accra, Ghana — Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has extended warm greetings to women and girls across Ghana and around the world as the nation marks International Women’s Day 2026.

In a message commemorating the global celebration, the Vice President praised the resilience, achievements, and vital contributions women continue to make toward Ghana’s development.

She noted that women have played a critical role in shaping the country’s progress across several sectors and encouraged Ghanaians to celebrate their impact while continuing to promote equal opportunities.

“Let us be proud of the resilience, achievements, and essential contributions women continue to make to our nation’s progress,” she said.

The Vice President highlighted Ghana’s 2026 theme for the celebration, “Giving to Gain,” explaining that the principle is already being reflected in government policy and leadership decisions.

According to her, the government’s deliberate effort to ensure that women make up at least 30 percent of public appointments demonstrates a commitment to inclusive leadership and national development.

She explained that increasing women’s representation in leadership roles—such as ministers and heads of key public institutions—helps broaden the pool of ideas and expertise that guide national policy.

The Vice President stressed that when women participate in decision-making at the highest levels, the country benefits from diverse perspectives and stronger governance.

Beyond government institutions, she emphasized that the push for gender inclusion must extend across business, academia, civil society, the creative industries, and faith-based leadership.

She said expanding opportunities for women across these sectors strengthens national development and ensures Ghana benefits from the full range of talent available.

“Empowering women is not just a favour,” she noted. “It is a strategic investment in better governance and a more confident Ghana.”

The message concluded with the Vice President wishing women across the country and around the world a Happy International Women’s Day, while encouraging continued efforts to advance gender equality and inclusive development.
